What is professional web design? (and what you pay)

Professional web design is a site at a fixed price, with its own design, working technical foundations and one contact. Not a template with a logo. What it costs and how you recognise it.

Professional web design is a website designed and built for one company, with an agreed price, a working technical base and someone who stays reachable after go-live. It is not a WordPress theme with your logo, and not an open-ended hourly bill.

The German search queries professionelle Webentwicklung and Website zum Festpreis mean the same thing: no surprise afterwards, a site that looks as if someone thought it through.

How you recognise it

  • Own layout. No recognisable ThemeForest grid.
  • Price upfront. At ultimAItech: websites from €197 per month (36 months), webshops from €4,000 one-off.
  • Speed. Target: under two seconds on a normal phone connection.
  • SEO foundation. Titles, schema, sitemap, no “we’ll do SEO later”.
  • One contact. You email the person who writes the code.
  • Documentation at handover. What was built, how you change something.

On Nijenhuis, Jan Sok and WAL that is visible: different companies, the same bar.

What it is not

A Wix page you put together yourself in an evening. That can be a start. It is not professional web design.

An agency with three layers of account managers. There you pay for coordination. Sometimes that is justified. For a business website in Drenthe or Overijssel, rarely.

A “free” theme plus five paid plugins. The bill arrives in maintenance.

Fixed price: what is fixed, what is not

Fixed is the package we agree: number of pages, languages, hosting, changes within 48 hours. Not fixed is work outside that scope: an extra webshop, an Exact integration, a second brand.

That distinction belongs in the quote. Without it, “fixed price” is theatre.

What it costs in 2026

Type Guide price (excl. VAT) Timeline
Business website Starter €197 / month 2–4 weeks
Business (more pages, 2 languages) €297 / month 2–4 weeks
Pro (CMS, 3 sites) €457 / month 2–4 weeks
Webshop from €4,000 one-off 4–8 weeks
Site with booking system €2,500–€5,000 3–5 weeks

National agencies often charge more for comparable work. My floor is lower because there is no account-manager layer. Details: what it costs to get a website built.

For the border region

Anyone in Nordhorn or Lingen who needs a Dutch and a German site sits in the Business package (two languages). See Website erstellen lassen in der Grafschaft Bentheim.

Rather have it done?

Book a call. I will also say so if a template is enough for now.
